GENIVAR is carried out work on a noise-abatement wall in the Montreal borough of Lachine, one of the city’s highest traffic-density areas. Congestion problems are particularly acute during rush hour upstream of 32nd Avenue, where Highway 13 and 20 converge. This makes the construction and installation of a noise wall absolutely essential. The three-km wall will be installed along the south side of Highway 20 between 4th Avenue and 56th Avenue. In accordance with improved landscaping standards, the wall will be carefully integrated with the waterfront area, substantially reducing the overall visual impact.
The level of project complexity is quite high given the poor condition of the public utilities in the area, compounded by imprecise infrastructure maps, limited work space and harsh winter weather conditions. To address these various constraints, including the need to manage multiple requests from local stakeholders, the project team has had to provide regular design updates, often under very tight deadlines.
