Sébastien Fecteau, Director, Hydroelectricity and Hydraulics
Construction of four run-of-river hydroelectric power stations in the section of the river located 17 km and further south of Kapuskasing, Ontario. The power stations were constructed at Big Beaver, White Otter and Old Woman Falls, as well as at Camp Three Rapids. With an installed power of 5.5 MW, each facility will include a surface power station located on the left bank and equipped with two Kaplan turbines operating at a waterfall height of approximately 8.5 m and at a nominal flow rate of 80 m3 /s. Each facility will also include a spillway crest, with an inflatable rubber dam in the main channel and various retaining structures. Approximately 10 km of new roads will be added. The power stations are expected to be operational in 2012.
